Put on your running shoes – and hit these running trails to get fit and active.

The best thing about running is that it doesn’t cost a thing. The great thing about running in Klang Valley is that there are many cool places to go for a run. From scenic routes to more challenging slopes, here are some of the popular spots for runners.

KLCC Park –
Say running and KLCC Park is probably the first place you’ll hear about being one of Klang Valley’s best running trails. It’s smack in the city (with the Twin Towers in the background) but also surrounded by tall trees, manicured bushes and a well maintained rubberised track (better on those soles for longer runs!). Whether early in the morning, evenings or over the weekends, the running trail here is packed with enthusiatics joggers. Drinking fountains are located along the trail so you can hydrate while you run.

Padang Merbok+ Bukit Tunku + Jalan Duta –
Popular with those training for the marathon, this loop has it all – from scenic views to serious inclines and the flatter roads to take it easy after all that climb. It’s often the same route used in many races and the fact that there is a total elevation of 116.16 metres makes this ideal if you want to take your running more seriously. Plenty of running clubs make it their weekend running trail too so you’re likely to run next to some pro-runners!

Desa Park City –
Perfect for newbies, Desa Park City has a gentle 2.2km loop around the lake. It is family friendly so you can bring your kids here for a loop or two as well. After that, you can hit the many cafes nearby for a well-deserved breakfast.

Bukit Kiara –
Now we’re talking! The Bukit Kiara running trail offers some serious inclines for those who want killer calves. And it starts right from the beginning of the trail for about 4km before you hit an easy stride downhill. Bonus: It is also surrounded by greenery for plenty of fresh air and if you’re into trail running, you can take a detour into the hiking trail for something different.

Taman Saujana Hijau –
Run here and you’ll feel like you’re running in a hillside somewhere abroad. Quite easily Putrajaya’s undiscovered gem, Taman Saujana Hijau offers great views with its greenery with rolling hills and the most stunning sight of the Putrajaya city view at the top of the park with a nice peaceful long run. You might be tempted to stop running and take photos instead!
